Jammu: Expressing concern over infiltration attempts and smuggling of weapons with narcotics, Jammu-based White Knight Corps General-Officer-Commanding Lt Gen Manjinder Singh on Wednesday said the Army is well equipped to tackle all challenges from across the border.

“Foiling infiltration from across the border is one of the biggest challenges for the Army besides smuggling of arms and ammunition and consignment of drugs emerging as a new challenge,” he told a press conference at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the White Knight Corps (16 Corps).

“Weapon and drug smuggling, infiltration attempts are challenges for the Army but we are always on our toes to foil them. With the help of the police, we are also identifying such youths who are engaged into the illegal trade for appropriate action,” said the officer.

“Pakistan is trying to radicalise our youth but we have a comprehensive strategy to positively engage and channelize energy of our youth in different disciplines including sports and culture,” he said.

But he said that the civil society as a whole has to play its role in preventing the radicalisation “and the process has to start from our homes vis-à-vis educational institutions”.

Although, there is peace in Jammu and Kashmir, still some Pakistan-sponsored modules are active and trying to disrupt peace across the region,” he added.

Pakistan and its intelligence were are trying to infiltrate terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir but the Indian Army had foiled all such attempts. “We have a plan of action ready always to foil the nefarious designs of Pakistan.”

“Pakistan origin terrorists are shifting from Kashmir towards Jammu region to execute conspiracies but we are not allowing it to happen.”

The officer recalled the sacrifices made by soldiers to ensure peace in the region.

The White Knight Corps, raised on June 1, 1972 by Lt Gen J F R Jacob, its first Commander, has a rich history of valour in war and has also performed commendably in counter insurgency operations.

Several events marked the day, including an awe inspiring display of attack helicopters Rudra and an enthralling display of free fall sky diving from the Army Adventure Wing.

A dog show, band display and weapon display were also organised as part of the event.
