The columnar basaltic rocks found in Jhalawar district’s Mishroli are novel in the state of Rajasthan, and now, INTACH has included them in their list of geo-heritage. A list of around 150 geo-heritages all across the country has been made by INTACH, in which Mishroli’s basaltic rocks have now been included, which is a big achievement for the district.

This will lead to the promotion of tourism in the district, because many students conduct research on these rocks which are lakhs of years old, and a large number of tourists visit to see these rocks. The geo-diversity of the site is of immense importance as well. INTACH also organized a geo-heritage tour here on Thursday, through which it was demanded that Mishroli and the rocks nearby should be developed into a geo-heritage park.

Dr Madhusudan Acharya, Agricultural Scientist, has claimed that Mishroli’s columnar six-sided rocks were formed 6.5 crore years ago, with the fracture process of lava cooling down after coming out onto the surface of the Earth, which are found only here in all of Rajasthan. Such formations can be found in very few sites across the world. Jhalawar district has a rich collection of Vindhya sandstone, Deccan trap basaltic rock, limestone, and laterite rocks, which will prove to be a boost for its tourism here.
