New Delhi: Karnataka Congress President D K Shivakumar left the Bharat Jodo Yatra midway and flew here after receiving summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald case.

Earlier, the ED rejected his request to defer his interrogation. The agency has also summoned his brother and Congress MP D K Suresh.

“They (ED) have also summoned brother Suresh… I had sought time but the ED asked me to be present for the interrogation. As a law-abiding citizen, I decided to respect the law. We left the yatra in the middle and have come,” he told reporters here.

On Thursday, the KPCC chief took to Twitter flaying the timing of the ED summons, saying it smacked of political harassment. He said the BJP does not like his participation in the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi.

Shivakumar feigned ignorance about what the ED may ask them.

“I don’t know what they will ask. I came to know about the National Herald case through the media. Anyhow, once I return I will tell you. I also do not have any information about who has been summoned except Khargeji, Soniaji, Rahulji and Bansal,” he stated.

Earlier, the ED had interrogated him in the National Herald case on September 19 for six hours.

Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others have been accused of conspiring to cheat and misappropriate funds. The Gandhis have denied the charges against them.

The National Herald case relates to the assignment of a Rs 90 crore loan advanced by the Congress party to Young Indian Ltd.
