As per data revealed by the WHO, a total of 4 crore people in India are either suffering from complete blindness or from some other form of vision related problems. Out of them, around 16 lakhs are children. Now, eye problems have been increased because of the coming of OTT platforms, because of the newly emerged trend of ‘binge-watching’ shows. With the increase in screen-time, problems like headaches, trouble in focusing, itching in eyes, or weakening of the eyesight have augmented.

Binge-watching can lead to ‘computer vision syndrome’, and the risk of macular degeneration remains rampant. Even cataract is caused because of an increase in the blue-light hitting your eyes, which makes your eye lenses go cloudy. Keeping in mind these dangers, it is crucial that we watch only one or two episodes of our favourite web-series at once, and the time to watch the same should be fixed.

Another method to protect your eyes from strain is using high-resolution screens. Apart from this, while looking at the screens constantly, the eyes go dry because of less blinking; to keep the eyes hydrated, one can use the lubricated eye drops available in the market.

For children, parents can create a zone at home which does not have a single screen-device, which can be their drawing or living room. Parents can accompany children while watching a show as limiting their screen time while they watch shows alone can be difficult.
