Hyderabad: The contractual staff issuing tickets in Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) stations from L B Nagar to Miyapur on Tuesday boycotted their duty and held a protest demanding hike in pay and other issues.

They said they were getting only Rs 11,000 per month during the last five years. They complained that they were facing a lot of difficulties as the prices of essential commodities have increased but their salaries have not increased during the last five years. They demanded an increase in the minimum wage from Rs 15000 to Rs 18, 000.

They also alleged that they have many problems in their jobs. The striking staff said the management does not care about on-duty employees and they don’t give time even to eat, they alleged.

Due to protest of ticketing employees, a large number of passengers queued for tickets at Ameerpet and Miyapur metro stations.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Management said, “Few ticketing staff under a contracting agency have connived and abstained from work today with a purpose to disrupt train operations, causing passenger inconvenience.

They are also spreading rumours and misinformation out of vested interest. Their claims are false and their actions are highly against the public interest, which will call for stern action by the HMR management.

The management ensures due facilities and benefits are given to staff, however, will be discussing with them to learn more. Train operations are running on time and sufficient manpower is available.”
