Inflation hits Indian students in Britain, cannot pay house rent

Times of recession are rampant in Britain and people’s earnings are far less than the inflation rate, and as a result, the Indians students living there are facing an economic crisis. These tough times are no less than a nightmare for the Indian students who have recently reached the country. They are unable to find houses at affordable rates. In a year, the Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH) have gone up by 8.8%. The inflation rate has reached 9.3%.

According to data from the British High Commission, Britain has issued the highest number of student visas to Indian students during the last year, and India has outranked China in this matter. Till September 2022, around 1.27 lakh Indians were given student visas.

With these times of inflation carrying on unabated, many students have not paid their house rents for months now. As per the suffering students, they are spending as much amount of money on food in 4 days as they were spending in 2 weeks 7 years ago.

The rates of commodities of daily requirement have skyrocketed. Petrol being 163 Rs per litre, rice costs 199 Rs per KG, flour costs 497 Rs per KG, mustard oil prices are as high as 696 Rs per litre, and clarified butter stands at 895 Rs per litre.
