Kochi: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said the schemes implemented by the state government aimed at enhancing the enrollment in the higher education sector in Kerala are bearing fruit.

Inaugurating the third edition of Professional Students Summit organized by ASAP Kerala at Angamaly, he said

“The latest Economic Survey shows that the enrolment rate in higher education institutions in Kerala has increased to 43.2 percent. We are taking forward this momentum and our next target is to achieve 75 percent enrolment rate.”

The various initiatives of the government meant to improve the quality of professional education are primarily focussed on raising the academic standards and creating opportunities to bring knowledge to practical level.

Young people opting foreign countries for higher education is because there are job opportunities along with studies there. We also aim to achieve the same.

Projects such as Industry on Campus and Young Innovators Program are being implemented to create job opportunities for students along with their studies.

The Chief Minister also said that compulsory internship system will be extended to other fields of studies other than professional courses.

“Students should come forward to develop indigenous knowledge, research and products. Efforts are being made to connect Kerala with the world knowledge community. More cooperation with foreign universities and research centers are on our agenda. All sectors will get the benefit of the Rs 3500 crore research and development budget announced by the government this year,” he said.

The Chief Minister also stated that the government is taking the concerns of the youth seriously and urged them to reject the false narrative that our youth are increasingly going abroad in large numbers as Kerala is not a place to live. He listed key achievements of the state to counter this false narrative against the state.
