Steps are being taken all across the globe to reduce the emission of carbon, and now, the Wales government has introduced an initiative for the same, under which, in order to reach net zero emission by 2050, the Wales government has stopped all its projects of constructing new roads. Along with restricting the construction of roads altogether, the government has also stalled 42 out of 59 new road projects.

At the same time, bridge and highway projects have also been put into cold storage. Wales’s Deputy Environmental Change Minister, Lee Waters, has said that limiting road development is an effective solution against environmental crisis. This is a solution which has been thought of by a very few governments. Transit planners have been saying this for decades now that if you construct many roads, then people will buy more cars. Which will lead to an increased emission of greenhouse gases. Pollution and crowds will increase as well.

12.5% cars in the UK and 15% of them in the USA emit carbon. Therefore, it is obvious that in order to reduce pollution, the use of cars has to be controlled, and instead of cars, public transport, and cycles have to be used to commute, and along with this, walking will also be promoted. Wales is investing in programmes for rail and bus services, and cycling. The direction of travelling has also been fixed. Many experts of the country have suggested that focus should be paid on replacing the vehicles which are being used currently, and cars which run on gas, with EVs.
