New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished Pope Francis speedy recovery from his respiratory infection and said he was praying for the 86-year-old Pontiff’s good health.
“Praying for the good health and speedy recovery of Pope Francis,” the PM tweeted.
He retweeted a message of the Pope that said “I am touched by the many messages received in these hours and I express my gratitude for the closeness and prayer.”
Pope Francis was admitted on Wednesday to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome for “some days” after being diagnosed with a respiratory infection. The Vatican confirmed the news in a statement on March 29. The statement indicated that the pope had been experiencing difficulty breathing and underwent medical tests at the hospital. Although COVID-19 infection was excluded, the medical results showed a respiratory infection that requires appropriate medical treatment, Vatican News said.
The Vatican said that Pope Francis is responding well to the antibiotics given to cure his infectious bronchitis and his health has improved.
In the latest news, the Vatican said Pope Francis slept well during the night.
His clinical condition is progressively improving, and the planned treatments are continuing.
PM Modi had met the Pope in Rome in October 2021, during a visit to Italy for the G20. Pope Francis had received PM Modi in a private audience at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.
