India win silver and two bronze medals in Greco-Roman competion

Astana(Kazakhstan): India claimed one silver and two bronze medals on the opening day of the Asian Senior Wrestling Championships (Greco-Roman competion).

Rupin won silver in the 55 kg category while Neeraj (63 kg, bronze) and Sunil Kumar (87 kg, bronze) secured bronze medals.

Rupin was pitted against Iranian Dad Marz for the gold and silver in the 55 kg class. Zagreb Open champion Marz recorded a 3-1 verdict to claim the gold medal. On the way to the final bout, Rupin put up a good show to beat top seed and 2022 silver medalist Amangali Bekbolatov of Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals.

In the semi-final bout Rupin had beaten Haifeng Zhang of China by 3-1.

Neeraj defeated Jinseub Song of Korea by 5-2 to win the bronze medal in the 63 kg category. The second bronze for Indian was clinched by Sunil Kumar who beat Masato Sumi of Japan by 4-1 in the 87 kg class.

63 kg: Gold: Iman Mohammadi (IRI) bt Shermukhammad Sharibjanov (UZB) by TF, 9-0 (4:09),

Bronze: NeerajJ (IND) bt Jinseub Song (KOR), 5-2, Mukhamedali Mamurbek (KAZ) bt. Chiezo Maruvama (JPN) by TF, 9-0 (1:28).

77 kg: Gold: Akzhol Makhmudov (KGZ) bt Amin Kaviyanineiad (IRI) by Inj. Def.

Bronze: Kodai SakurabaBA (JPN) bt Jeyhun Ovezdurdyyev (TKM) by TF, 9-0 (1:38), Rui Liu (CHN) bt Demeu Zhadravey (KAZ), 5-2.

87 kg: Gold: Naser Aliadeh (IRI) bt Nursultan Tursynov (KAZ) by TF, 8-0.

Bronze: Sunil Kumar (IND) bt Masato Sumi (JPN), 4-1, Jalgasbay Berdimuratov (UZB) bt Atabek Azisbekov (KGZ), 2-2.

Semifinal: Naser Alizadeh (IRI) bt Sunil Kumar (IND), 7-2, Nursultan Tursynov (KAZ) bt Atabek Azisbekov(KGZ) by TF, 12-0 (1:43).
