The incidents took place at Ekkiyarkuppam fishing hamlet at Marakkanam in Villuppuram district and in Chengalpattu district.

While nine people died in the Marakkanam incident, five had died in the Chengalpattu tragedy.

Police sources said three more people, who had consumed the liquor in the Marakkanam incident and undergoing treatment, died at the Villuppuram Government Medical College Hospital, Mundiyambakkam since last evening.
