President Draupadi Murmu inaugurates India’s largest High Court in Jharkhand

On Wednesday, 24th May, India’s President, Draupadi Murmu, inaugurated the nation’s largest High Court campus at Dhurwa, Ranchi, the capital city of the state of Jharkhand. During the inauguration, along with her, were the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, and the Governor of Jharkhand, CP Radhakrishnan.

The new High Court complex is spread across 165 acres and the construction of the same had begun in June, 2015. The construction has been done at a cost of 550 crore rupees, and 500 CCTV cameras have been installed. A total of 1200 advocates will sit in two halls with separate 540 chambers and a separate Advocate General building. The complex also has a 30, 000 sq. feet library, with more than 5 lakh legal books, in which judges and other legal officials can sit and study, a parking for 2000 vehicles, and 25 grand courtrooms with air conditioning for the hearing of cases.

The court complex has three blocks, expanding on around 68 land sections. The judicial block has two floors, while there is also a separate chamber for typists, and barracks have been built for 70 police personnel.

The President is on a three-day visit to Jharkhand, which started on Wednesday, and she is visiting the Ranchi and Kunti districts as part of her tour to the state. Tomorrow, she will attend a women’s conference held at Khunti by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs. On Wednesday, President Murmu also visited the Baba Baidyanath Dham, Devghar, and paid obeisance to Lord Shiva.
