Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday expressed satisfaction over ongoing rescue and relief operations in the flood affected Kullu and Lahaul Spiti districts, stating that 60,000 tourists who had been stranded in the flood were evacuated.

The CM has been stationed in Kullu for the past three days, looking after the ongoing rescue operations.

On July 9 and 10, heavy rainfall and a subsequent flash flood situation trapped and stranded Tourists in their vehicles and hospitality units as most of the road washed away and faced the rolling down of heavy boulders, mud, and a landslide.

After five days, restoration work couldn’t proceed as it was affected by continued Monsoon rain and inundated rivers. Around 88 people died, 100 were injured, and many thousands were stranded and marooned.
