38,200 in Japan advised to evacuate due to risk of landslides

Tokyo: Some 38,200 people have been advised to evacuate due to the risk of landslides in Miyazaki Prefecture in southwestern Japan, Japanese media reported on Friday.

The advisory was issued amid Typhoon Lan’s passage over Kyushu Island, where the prefecture is located, the NHK broadcaster reported.

The cyclone hit southwestern Japan, bringing heavy rains that could cause landslides. The prefecture has declared a fourth of five possible alert levels, meaning it is necessary to evacuate to a safe place, while movement on the road is still possible.
