Gangtok: Football icon turned politician Bhaichung Bhutia, President of the Hamro Sikkim Party, is preparing to hit yet another goal by joining former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.

Refuting the rumours on Wednesday evening that he will be joining on September 19, 2023, he said, ‘It is true that I am going to join the Sikkim Democratic Front party, but not on September 19, may be some other date.’

Bhaichung is considering joining the Sikkim Democratic Front en masse, following his party members suggestions to go along with him. That would imply the merger of the Hamro Sikkim Party with the Sikkim Democratic Front.

‘We will be pursuing the Sikkim Bacho Abhiyan of Chamling in the SDF,’ said Bhaichung Bhutia further, while expressing the spirit of dejection at the way the present ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has been reportedly handling matters.

He went as far as offering an apology to the public of Sikkim for having supported SKM during the last 2019 elections in anticipation of ‘Parivartan’ (change) in the state.

Incidentally, on September 22, the birthday of SDF supremo Chamling is celebrated by the party as the ‘Garibi Unmoolan Diwas,’ and when joining also takes place, Bhaichung could also be part of that by joining SDF.
