Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday held a pro-Palestine protest in Srinagar.

The former chief minister and PDP workers gathered at their headquarters in the city centre and tried to take a march towards Lal Chowk. They were, however, not allowed to proceed forward.

The PDP later staged an anti Israel and pro Palestine protest outside their office. The party workers shouted slogans in favour of Palestine and against Israel.

“About 1,500 children and thousands of other innocents have been killed in Palestine so far and the whole world is watching as a mute spectator. When 500 children were killed in Ukraine in two years, the whole world cried. Today when children in Palestine are getting killed, no one is talking about it,” Mufti told reporters during the protest.

She said Israel should be pressurized to announce a ceasefire in the region.

Mufti said Israel was doing to Palestine what was done to the Jews in the holocaust.

“ This all will have consequences … There is already too much terrorism in the world but due to this and injustice, more people will take up arms, which can worsen the situation in the world. So we say the oppressors of Israel should vacate Palestine,” the former chief minister said.

The PDP protest later dispersed peacefully.
