Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said the government should conduct an inquiry into the allegations of mobile phones of senior leaders being hacked and spied upon and tell why such a thing was being done.

Talking to the reporters at the SP headquarters here, Akhilesh said, “It’s a matter of sadness. I got the information in the morning from a message received through the company that your mobile is being hacked or spied upon at the behest of the state and state agencies.”

He said, “Why do they want to take away your freedom and privacy in democracy? Why this spying and that too to the limit that phones of big leaders are being taken on surveillance. There is no place for such a thing in democracy.”

Akhilesh said the government should conduct an inquiry and tell why such a thing is happening.

“Several senior leaders of different political parties are involved in this. And what this spying will do when the public is against you. I am of the view that this surveillance, hacking others phones, hiring experts for this and taking help from other countries is being done by those who do not like democracy. They are denting India’s freedom and internal security,” he said.

He said if such things were coming to fore then the government should conduct an inquiry and tell the truth.

“What will happen when all the agencies will start chasing political leaders, like ED has issued a notice to Arvind Kejriwal?” he said.
