2 Hezbollah fighters killed in Lebanon-Israel border clashes: sources

Beirut: Two Hezbollah fighters were killed and three civilians injured Friday in border conflicts between the Lebanese Shiite armed group and Israeli forces, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The casualties resulted from Israeli shellings and drone attacks on various border villages and towns in southern Lebanon, according to the sources.

Hezbollah said its fighters attacked Israeli military sites, including gatherings of Israeli soldiers in the al-Manara and Evin Menachem settlements, and an infantry force in the al-Motella settlement, causing some casualties on the Israeli side.

The Israeli army later said one of its soldiers was killed and another seriously injured by a rocket attack from Hezbollah in the Shtula area in northern Israel.

The Lebanon-Israel border witnessed increased tension since Oct. 8 after the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attacks on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.

The clashes between south Lebanon-based military groups and the Israeli army have killed 172 on the Lebanese side, including 32 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources.
