Bhubaneswar: The security forces engaged in an anti-Maoist operation have destroyed a Maoist camp and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition following an exchange of fire with the red rebels inside the Nalikumpa jungle bordering Boudh and Kandhamal districts.

Reports reaching here on Tuesday said that acting on intelligence inputs about the movement of the Maoists inside the Nalikumpa forest,an intense combing operation was launched to flush out the Maoists from the area.

Seeing the security forces, the Maoists first opened fire on them, and the security forces retaliated.

The exchange of fire took place for nearly an hour, during which the Maoists, numbering about 20 to 25 fled from the scene.

The security forces destroyed the Maoist camp after the Red Rebels fled from the spot, leaving arms and explosives, including land mines, which were seized by the security forces.

On January 18, the Special Operations Group (SOG) jawans of Odisha police and the district Voluntary Force of Boudh, in a joint operation, destroyed a Maoist camp and busted a Maoist dump inside Budhakhol forest in Boudh district.
