Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday criticized the Congress party’s struggle to find candidates for the upcoming parliamentary polls, attributing it to a fear of defeat.

He highlighted that even ministers within the party were hesitant to contest.

Speaking to reporters here after meeting BJP Central Parliamentary Board member BS Yediyurappa, Bommai emphasized that the party’s candidate selection process involved thorough discussions, with the Lingayat strongman expressing support and promising to campaign for him.

Bommai noted the uniqueness of this year’s candidate selection within the BJP, citing examples such as Dr CN Manjunath, whose contributions in saving lives earned him a party ticket.

He also highlighted the significance of nominating Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar from the Mysuru-Kodagu parliamentary constituency, stating that it sent a positive message throughout South Karnataka.

Bommai credited the Wadiyar Dynasty for the development of South India and their efforts in uplifting backward classes.

In contrast, Bommai criticized the lack of uniqueness in the Congress party’s candidate selection process, suggesting that fear of electoral defeat had deterred ministers from contesting.

He specifically mentioned Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s remarks about individuals seeking tickets through him, implying that the Congress party lacked viable candidates for the elections.
