Srinagar: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday blamed the J&K government for “sabotaging” the move to hold Assembly and Parliamentary elections simultaneously.

“ The current Jammu and Kashmir Government sabotaged the move to hold Assembly and Parliamentary elections simultaneously as they don’t want to see an elected government here”, Omar told media persons on the sidelines of a public rally held at Damhal Hanji Pora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday.

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said the current dispensation wants to “continue to rule like uncrowned kings” and doesn’t want to see an elected government here.

“We wanted both Parliamentary and Assembly elections to be held together, which did not happen,” Omar said.

“We thank God that as per the Supreme Court order, they will have to conclude elections before September 30. The Chief Election Commissioner also made it clear that the elections in Jammu and Kashmir would be held before the deadline and hopefully, there will be a people’s government,” the NC Vice President said.

Replying to a question about the status of the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), Omar said the alliance is in place.

“What has happened to its (PAGD) status?… It stands and they will meet in a day or two,” Omar said.

Omar also announced that the party has started the election campaign for the Lok Sabha elections from today.

Regarding the Citizen Amendment (CA) Act, Omar said “It is not only against the Muslims, there are other minorities who have been kept away from it”.
