J&K: Five Army soldiers, SPO injured, CRPF jawan succumbs in twin terror attacks in Doda, Kathua

Jammu: Five Army soldiers and a Special Police Officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir police suffered injuries, while one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel injured in a separate gunfight succumbed in two ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the Doda and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police officials said on Wednesday that a gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces late on Tuesday night in the Chattargala area, or Doda district.

“At around 1:45 am, the army and police were engaged with terrorists in the Chattargala area of Bhaderwah in Doda district,” they said.

They said that five army soldiers and one SPO sustained bullet injuries in the gunfight, and they immediately evacuated and shifted to the Sub-District Hospital Bhaderwah for treatment.

“There was no fresh exchange of firings reported so far while searches were underway,” they said.

Meanwhile, in another ongoing operation in village Saida Sukhal at Kootah Morh in Kathua district, one CRPF jawan suffered a bullet injury and succumbed on Wednesday morning.

The martyred CRPF personnel were identified as Constable G. D. Kabir Dass.

“One civilian, namely Onkar, 45, of village Sohal, Hiranagar, also suffered an injury to his left arm when terrorists fired at him. He was admitted to Government Medical College, Kathua,” said a police official.

“As of now, one terrorist has been neutralized, while massive searches are being carried out in the area to track down another terrorist. As per the villagers, they were two in number,” they added.

Notably, on June 9, terrorists attacked a bus ferrying pilgrims in Reasi district, following which the vehicle plunged into a gorge, leaving 10 dead and 33 injured
