Sikkim delegation visits Kerala to study KFON Broadband Model

Thiruvananthapuram: A delegation from Sikkim, led by IT Secretary Tenzing T. Kaleon, visited Kerala to examine the state’s successful broadband initiative, KFON.

The visit, following similar interest from Tamil Nadu and Telangana, aimed to study KFON’s operational framework and revenue model, a release said.

The team, which included IT officials S.T. Wangdi, Prem Vijay Basnet, Prem Ashish Pradhan, and consultant Karma Lendup Bhutia, toured the KFON Network Operating Centre (NOC) in Kochi and later held discussions with KFON officials in Thiruvananthapuram.

Key figures in the discussions were: Santhosh Babu IAS (Retd.), Principal Secretary and KFON MD, Dr. Raja Kishore; CTO, Resmi Kurup; CFO, Lekha P; DGM; and Sam S, DGM.

During the visit, the Sikkim delegation explained that their visit was prompted by Kerala’s impressive performance in the review of the Central Government’s Bharat Net Project.

They aim to study Kerala’s successful broadband model and explore its potential implementation in Sikkim. Additionally, the team visited various Point of Presence (POP) centres and government institutions connected through KFON.
