Jammu: Police arrested one inter-state narco smuggler with over 200-kg poppy straw on Monday in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police spokesman here said that a bid to smuggle narcotics has been foiled with the recovery of 211 kg of poppy straw at Naka Point Jakhani on Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
Amid the ongoing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, a police team of Police Station Udhampur led by Station House Officer, Raghubir Choudhary, while on Naka checking at Jakhani NHW, stopped one truck on the way from Srinagar towards Jammu.
During a search, eight bags with a net quantity of 211 kgs filled with poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle.
On preliminary inquiry, the driver disclosed his identity as Mohammad Hanief of Village Toli, District Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, he said adding that the accused person (driver) has been arrested on the spot, vehicle and contraband seized.
A case under relevant sections has been registered and an investigation started.
