Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived here, is scheduled to inaugurate a key defence conference at Fort William, the headquarters of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command in the city.

“After programmes in Assam, I landed in Kolkata, where I will take part in the Combined Commanders’ Conference tomorrow,” Modi said before arriving in the city to unveil a three-day armed forces conference at Fort William.

Modi also shared visuals of a grand welcome at Kolkata Airport last evening as he waved to a large crowd of supporters.

The combined defence conference, held this morning, aims to focus on reforms, emphasising the building of indigenous defence capabilities to make India “Atmanirbhar”.

Transformation and operational preparedness are the themes for this year’s conference, titled ‘Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future’.

This is Modi’s second visit to the city in less than a month. He recently unveiled a slew of projects, including the much-awaited metro connectivity between Sealdah and Howrah stations, along with a link to Kolkata airport.

The PM is expected to depart from Kolkata this afternoon for Purnea in Bihar.

The Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) will be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, among others.
