New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended a series of festive greetings to citizens across the country through separate posts on X, marking the beginning of the traditional New Year in several regions and the onset of Navratri, while underscoring values of courage, self-confidence, service, and collective nation-building.
In one of his messages on the occasion of the New Year, the Prime Minister said, “Heartfelt greetings to all citizens on the occasion of the New Year. I wish that this new year further strengthens courage, self-confidence, and the spirit of service in all your lives, and also gives renewed strength to the efforts of nation-building.”
He reiterated a similar sentiment in another post marking Nav Samvatsar, expressing hope that the year ahead would bring “infinite happiness, success and good health,” while strengthening “the spirit of courage, self-confidence and service” and adding “renewed momentum to our collective efforts towards nation-building.”
Extending greetings for Navratri, the nine-day festival dedicated to the worship of the divine feminine, Modi addressed citizens as members of his family and said, “May this divine occasion of worshipping Shakti bring happiness, good fortune, prosperity, and excellent health to all of you.”
He added that with the blessings of Durga, “our resolve for a developed India” would gain new energy.
In a separate message, he offered “respectful salutations and reverence at the feet of Mother Durga,” praying that the deity bless everyone with “love and compassion.”
The Prime Minister also conveyed greetings for a range of regional festivals that coincide with the traditional New Year across India, including Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Cheti Chand, Sajibu Cheiraoba, and Navreh. His brief messages included wishes for prosperity and a “wonderful year” ahead for people celebrating these occasions in different parts of the country.
Nav Samvatsar marks the beginning of the Hindu lunar calendar and is observed under different names and traditions across states, reflecting India’s cultural diversity. The period also coincides with Navratri, during which devotees worship various forms of Goddess Durga, symbolising the triumph of good over evil and the divine energy that sustains the universe.
Modi’s messages align with his broader emphasis on “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and the vision of a “Viksit Bharat,” themes that frequently feature in his public communications during national and cultural occasions. By linking spiritual observances with civic values such as service and collective progress, the Prime Minister sought to reinforce a sense of unity and shared purpose among citizens at the start of the new year period.
