Chennai: Police investigating the case of Thiru Ramalingam – a 42 year old man from Kumbakonam – have arrested five persons in connection with the murder.
All five persons arrested belong to the Muslim community – Mohammad Azaruddin, Mohamma Riaz, Nizam Ali, Sarbuddin and Mohammad Riaz. Nizam Ali – the man seen in the video is a member of Popular Front of India (PFI) of revealed Thanjavur Superintendent of Police Maheshwaran to IndianExpose. However, he could not confirm if the other four also belonged to PFI as investigations are still on.
The accused are expected to be produced before a magistrate.
Ramalingam who opposed Islamic conversion in a Dalit colony had been murdered by a group of unidentified men.
He was an office bearer of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK).
His hands chopped off with billhooks. Bleeding profusely he was rushed to a private hospital bleeding profusely and later was being transferred to the Government Medical College in the city. He died due to excessive bleeding on the way of the hospital.
Tensions continues to prevail in Kumbakonam and there exist a heavy deployment of police forces.
