Srinagar: Security forces called off anti terror military operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday morning after militants managed to escape, officials said.

Terrorists and joint forces exchanged a brief fire on Wednesday evening at Chakoora village of Shopian during a cordon and a search operation (CASO) which was launched following the input about militant presence in the area.

“It looks the terrorists managed to flee from the area in the initial stages of the operation,” a security official said. “After the brief shooting, searches were also carried in adjoining villages but no fresh contact was established.”

The official said the operation was called off this morning.
