Dhaka: The Bangladesh Army conducted a raid on the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch following reports that many people were detained there. However, no one was found during the raid, media reports said on Thursday.

According to media sources, several ground floor rooms of the DB office were inspected by Armymen with suspicions that individuals might be detained there, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

An announcement was made, asking if anyone was trapped to respond, stating that the Army had come to rescue them. However, no one responded, and all the rooms were found empty.

During the inspection, a cupboard in one of the rooms was opened, revealing Tk13 lakh in cash. The money was found in three bundles – Tk8 lakh in one bundle wrapped with scotch tape, Tk3 lakh in another bundle, and Tk2 lakh in a third bundle, reports said.

Sub Inspector Suja of the Motijheel division of the DB claimed ownership of the money.

“This money is mine. I withdrew it from the bank. I went to the DB office on Wednesday to collect the money as I was going home. Later, I could not come out with the money,” he added.
