Bengaluru second city in world to face most traffic jams

Bengaluru is the second city all across the globe which witnesses the most traffic jams, and the first spot has been bagged by Britain’s capital, London. This information has come to the fore with Dutch location technology specialist, Tomtom’s traffic index. As per the index, the people of Bengaluru who are included in the ‘city center’ category, took 29 minutes and 10 seconds to travel 10 KMs via car during the last year. Delhi lies at the 34th, and Mumbai is at the 47th spot of this list.

As per the report, in 2022, to travel 10 KMs in London, it took 36 minutes, 20 seconds on an average. At the same time, the situation improved in Bengaluru as compared to 2021. During rush hours, the average vehicle speed remained 18 KMPH in the city, while in 2021, it was 14 KMPH. In 2021, Bengaluru was the 10th most crowded city. During the last year, the people living in the city spent 260 hours (10 days) while driving, and 134 hours stuck in traffic jams, on an average. The day with the most traffic for the city was 15th October.

This was when in order to drive around the city center, the average time taken to travel 10 KM was 33 minutes 50 seconds. The average speed was 19 KMPH in the morning, and 16 KMPH in the evening. In the city-center category, Ireland’s Dublin was the third-most crowded city.

City-center is any urban area which covers a span of 5 KM of the busiest areas. The index analysis includes 389 cities of 56 countries across 6 continents.
