Bengaluru: Senior BJP leader Vijayendra Yediyurappa strongly criticised the Karnataka Congress government’s decision to amend rules regarding minority educational institutions, calling it an attack on the state’s cultural and linguistic heritage.

Taking to X on Saturday, Vijayendra alleged that the government’s move to reduce the mandatory percentage of students from the respective minority community in these institutions from 90% to 75% is a violation of constitutional provisions.

“This decision is nothing short of an insult to the Constitution and a deliberate blow to the Kannada language and culture,” he stated.

Highlighting the already dwindling presence of Kannada education and culture in minority-run institutions, particularly in Bengaluru, Vijayendra accused the Congress of prioritising minority appeasement over the welfare of the state. “This resolution undermines the foundations of the Kannada nation and caters solely to vote-bank politics,” he added.

The BJP leader warned the Congress government to withdraw the resolution immediately, cautioning that failure to do so would lead to mass protests. “We will not allow this injustice to the Kannada people to continue. The fight to protect our culture and identity will be inevitable,” he said.

The issue has sparked widespread debate, with opposition parties and cultural groups rallying against the amendment. Meanwhile, the Congress government has defended the move as an effort to promote inclusivity in education.
