Srinagar: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) activists on Thursday staged a protest in Srinagar demanding adequate ration and revocation of property tax.

Holding placards, dozens of DPAP activists demanded an adequate quota of ration available at the government-run depot for the people.

The protesters took out a march from party headquarters in Srinagar towards Press Enclave on Residency and were stopped by the police on the way.

The protesters were also demanding the revocation of property tax in Jammu and Kashmir.

A senior leader of the party Mohammad Amin Bhat told media persons that they were not allowed to move from the party headquarters to press Enclave on Residency by the police to register their protest.

“We are protesting against the non-availability of adequate Ration on the Government depots for the people”, he said.

He alleged that BPL and AAY are getting a few kilos of ration which is not sufficient for them while the APL category has been ignored.

He demanded the people should be provided with additional Ration at the Government-run depots in Kashmir valley. Besides, make available sugar and kerosene.

The Government is presently issuing a 5 kg ration per head for the APL category for a month which is in no way sufficient, he said.

He said the inflation has already broken the backbone of the people as the prices of essential commodities are sky-high in Kashmir.

Bhat also alleged that there is unprecedented unemployment and not a single person is being appointed by the government.

“If the authorities failed to meet our demands and put available adequate Ration for the people and revoke property tax within one week, the party activists will march and stage a protest at historic Lal Chowk”, he warned.
