Hyundai India sales up 1.13 pc in May on higher SUV demand

New Delhi: Driven by higher demand for SUVs, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Saturday reported 1.13pc year-on-year increase in domestic vehicle sales at 49,151 units in the month of May, 2024.

The company recorded 31pc growth in exports in May this year as it shipped 14,400 units during this period compared to 11,000 units in May 2023.

Hyundai Motor registered total sales of 63,551 units in May 2024, a 6.63pc year-on-year growth.

Commenting on May 2024 sales, Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India said, “We have maintained a healthy total sales volume in May 2024, despite a week-long routine bi-annual maintenance shutdown at our Sriperumbudur factory.”

He added, “SUVs continue to be a growth driver for HMIL, accounting for more than 67pc of domestic sales last month. Our rural penetration stood at a healthy 20.1pc in May.”
