The USA, in its Senate, passed the Defense Expenditure Act worth 858 billion dollars or 71 lakh crore rupees, in which the focus has been made on making a defense deal with India. According to section 1260 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), defense co-operation with India includes supply of state-of-the-art equipment for intelligence gathering, modern wireless communication facilities, fourth-fifth generation aircrafts, drone supplies, and the supply of defense equipment.

350 votes in the favour of this act and 80 against it were seen in the Senate. Now, this will be sent to President Joe Biden, and right after his signature, the things written in it will be implemented with immediate effect. And within 90 days of the implementation, people who will be working in co-ordination with India’s defense ministry will be appointed. It is being believed that amidst the border clashes with China, this is a major achievement for India. Apart from this, the intention of the USA is that India reduces its dependence on Russian arms.

For the same, the NDAA has told the Defense Secretary that within 180 days after the implementation of the act, a report should be submitted stating whether India’s dependence on Russian arms reduced or not. Following the Russia-Ukraine battle, the relations between the USA and Russia have turned sour. As a result of which, the USA is mulling over weakening the relations between India and Russia as well. The USA has also decided to take big steps against China.

Drones are sent to the USA by China time and again, and therefore, the USA has decided that this situation will be analyzed and China’s conspiracy will be thwarted. Along with this, vehicles being imported from China will also be examined. USA is doubtful that vehicles coming from China may have spying devices. The point of imposing military restrictions on China and on places where it buys modern arms, has also been raised. In the last 5 years, relations between the USA and India have deepened, especially after the 2 plus 2 meeting, the possibility of further strengthening the relationship has increased.
