Jerusalem: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has struck Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, accusing the Shia movement of violating the ceasefire, the IDF said.

“A short while ago, with the direction of the Intelligence Directorate, the IAF [Israeli Air Force] conducted a precise strike in Lebanese territory on two military sites that contained Hezbollah weapons, which were in violation of the ceasefire agreement,” the IDF said in a statement on Telegram.

It said it continues to operate to remove threats to Israel and will prevent any attempt by Hezbollah to rebuild its forces, in accordance with the ceasefire understandings.

On January 27, Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that the interim government had decided to extend the ceasefire agreement with Israel until February 18.

Under the agreement, which was signed on November 27, the Israeli military was to withdraw completely from Lebanese territory within 60 days and Hezbollah had to withdraw its forces to north of the Litani River.
