Srinagar: A major terror incident was foiled on Monday after security forces detected and destroyed an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Army said.

Officials said the IED was recovered at Palpora Palhallan along the Srinagar Baramulla Highway this morning. Soon after the detection of the suspected object which later was found to be an IED, security forces promptly cordoned off the area and halted traffic on the highway as a safety precaution.

A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called and they destroyed the IED in a controlled way, an official said, adding that traffic on the highway was later restored.

Army Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said the recovery of the IED averted a major terror incident.

“IED Recovered on National Highway-1 near Palhalan, Baramulla. Chinar Warriors and @JmuKmrPolice averted a major terror incident today by recovering and destroying an IED on National Highway-1 near Palhalan, Baramulla,” Army said. “ Indian Army remains resolute in its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free.”

The Srinagar Baramulla national highway is used by convoys of the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and VVIPs and as part of the security drill the road is sanitized every morning before the movement of convoys.
