Mumbai: Almost 62 per cent of the Mumbai coastal project has been completed and the entire project will be ready by end of 2023. This will save Mumbaikars from traffic congestion, said Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis on Monday inspected the progress of the project as

Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation Iqbal Singh Chahal, additional commissioner (East Suburban) Ashwini Bhide made a presentation at the Priyadarshani Park (Nepean sea) office of the project.

Shinde assured that this dream of Mumbaikars will be completed within the stipulated time and their commute will shorten.

Along with Fadnavis, he also inspected the underground tunnel, the interchange at the Haji Ali and Worli region.

The Mumbai Coastal Road project is one of the most ambitious project taken up by the Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

The construction of this 10.58 km long road starting from the Princess Street flyover to the South end of Bandra Worli Sea Link has been underway for sometime.

It consists of 4 plus 4 Lane embankment roads, elevated roads, bridges and tunnels. The construction works began in October 2018 and the target is set for November 2023.

This project is aimed at reducing travel time by road and also resolving the present traffic congestion in the region. Alongside, it is expected to create additional green belts by bringing about improvements in public transportation through a dedicated bus route.
