Report on hotel blaze submitted

Lucknow: A two-member committee appointed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to probe the fire in Hotel Levana has submitted its report, official sources said on Saturday.

Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob and Police Commissioner S B Shiradkar met the Chief Minister on Friday night.

Later, they submitted the findings with Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad. Though details are not known, informed sources said negligence has been cited as the cause of the incident.

The committee has reportedly fixed accountability of some departments including the Lucknow Development Authority and the Fire department and has recommended action against some officers and employees.

Two women and two men were killed and eight were taken ill after a major fire broke out in the hotel in Hazratganj area on September 5.

The hotel owners, Rahul Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal, and General Manager Sagar Shrivastava were arrested. They were remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a court on September 6.

Taking suo moto cognizance, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has summoned the Vice-Chairman of the Lucknow Development Authority on September 22.
