Agartala: Tripura obtained the 5th position in the country in regard to managing law and order, and the state government adopted multi-pronged strategies to ensure the security and safety of the citizens, thereby further improving the situation, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday while inaugurating the 87th police station of the state at Bagbasa along the Assam-Tripura border.

Besides increasing the strength of police, the state government has been working on a mission to prevent crimes against women, drug and narcotic-related crimes, and ensure a seamless effort to improve general law and order, safety, and security for the people, Dr Saha said.

“The law and order situation in Tripura is now convincingly good, but there is no room for complacency. The prerequisite for development is public security and good law and order, which attracts investors. With the series of efforts being undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Northeast, Tripura becomes a hub of trade and commerce with Southeast Asia; we need to trap the advantage,” CM underlined.

As many as 750 people were arrested last year under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and drugs worth 51 crore were seized, and the figure shows an upward trend this year as part of a mission to make Tripura a drug-free state, for which the state government adopted a zero-tolerance stand.

Tripura ranks well among the Northeastern regions in terms of seizure and destruction of narcotic items and drugs. No one involved in drugs will be exempted, and strict action is being taken against those involved in drug trade and trafficking, he claimed.
