Gaza: More than 800,000 Palestinians have evacuated from the northern part of the Gaza Strip amid the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Jonathan Conricus said on Tuesday.

“Happy to see that more than 800,000 Palestinians have evacuated from the northern part, from the main combat area,” Conricus said in a video address published on X.

He also said Israel “will be ramping up” efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the south of the Gaza Strip.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said on Monday that since the start of hostilities, more than 1.4 million civilians had to leave their homes in the Gaza Strip.

On October 7, Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and abducting people in neighboring Israeli communities. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel. The blockade was later eased to allow trucks with humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The escalation of the conflict has resulted in thousands of people killed and injured.
