Agartala: Japan has expressed its interest to extend help for the development of the communication system in Tripura, said state information minister Sushanta Chowdhury here on Tuesday.

He said the Second Secretary of Japan High Commission in New Delhi Mari Sakai held a wide range of discussions with him during her Tripura visit on Monday.

Japanese diplomats came here to explore the possibility of investment and extend cooperation in the development of the state.

“She shows interest in supporting the state for a better communication network, which we also need. However, the discussion was at a very primary level to initiate the dialogue and of course, the final project will be shaped up after the State government according to the proposal and central government clears the nod,” Chowdhury stated.

The minister has offered condolences for the untimely demise of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe in a cowardly attack and hoped that Japan would continue its endeavour of cordial relations with India.
