People are surprised twice a week, which reduces stress

You cannot resist from getting surprised when you listen to a good song, or watch a player perform well in a match, all such experiences which surprise you, lead to more happiness in your life, which reduces stress and the person gets to know more about their own self. As per a recent study conducted by California University’s Greater Good Science Centre, these facts related to getting surprised have come to the fore.

A survey was conducted on 3 lakh people from 26 countries by the lead researcher of this study, Decker Keltner, and he found out that if one is constantly surprised, it leads to the betterment of mental and physical health, compassion and generosity increase, and the mind sharpens. It was revealed through research conducted by the John Templeton Foundation in 2018 that the feeling of surprise slows down symptoms of cancer, heart ailments, and diabetes, and reduces stress and tension.

In a study conducted in 2021, it was found out that the feeling of surprise helps people understand their own self better, and helps develop more patience.

As per the latest study, a person experiences the feeling of getting surprised twice a week, and people get surprised with the success of others as compared to their own. It was also found out in a study in 2018 that people who experience more surprises in life are humbler.

Keltner said that during the pandemic, people were lonely and wanted to listen to sad songs more. Surprise develops in people because of being alone and listening to songs. In order to maintain the sense of surprise, people started looking after plants during the pandemic.
