India wins DICC T20 Champions Trophy

Ajman (UAE): India Deaf Cricket Team lifted the DICC T20 Champions Trophy, beatting South Africa by 39 runs in the final here at Malek stadium.

Skipper Virendra Singh was adjudged Man of the Match for his scintillating batting display in Sunday’s final.

Batting first, Virendra’s unbeaten 50 and Indrajeet Yadav’s 40 off 44 helped India post 140 for 4.

Chasing a 141-run target, South Africa were bundled out for 101 runs. R du Plessis (23) top-scored for South Africa.

Notably, India remained an undefeated team in the tournament.

En route to the final, India had won all their three round-robin matches against Australia, Bangladesh, and South Africa.

Roma Balwani, CEO Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) said: “It was a very special tournament as team IDCA was playing their maiden international tournament post the pandemic. This tournament required immense leadership by the skipper, ably aided by the coaches M.P Singh, Dev Dutt. The resilience and tenacity demonstrated by the entire team to win all the robin rounds and the semi-final to emerge a winner today is commendable. Kudos to team India Deaf cricket.”
