Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI (M) has alleged that Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has been acting in a manner which does not befit the constitutional post that he holds.

President Droupadi Murmu must intervene to prevent Khan from making such anti-Constitutional and anti-democratic statements, the party said in a message on Tuesday.

The CPI(M) came out against the Governor after his tweet sending a strong message against the ministers that he will not tolerate their fault-finding of him or his office.

Khan tweeted: “The CM and Council of Ministers have every right to advise Governor. But statements of individual ministers that lower the dignity of the office of the Governor, can invite action including withdrawal of pleasure.”

The tweet courted a controversy after legal experts initiated a discussion on whether the constitution empowers the Governor to sack ministers from their posts.

The Governor’s tweet came after Higher Education Minister Dr R Bindu criticised Khan for not signing various bills, including the University Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2022, passed by the State Legislative Assembly.

She also alleged that the Governor was taking decisions after consulting with the RSS.

After the Governor responded to the ministers’ remarks, State Local Self Government (LSG) Minister MB Rajesh withdrew his comments shared on social media against the governor.

He also clarified that he withdrew the comment following his party’s stand that the dignity of the constitutional post should not be lowered.
