Mumbai: Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the Maharashtra government and the State Election Commission (SEC) to file their replies by November 25 in response to a petition by a ex-corporator challenging the decision of the Eknath Shinde led government decreasing the wards within Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from 236 to 227.

A division bench of Justices Gautam Patel and Gauri Godse was hearing a petition filed by Raju Pednekar challenging the ordinance of August 8 reversed MVA government’s decision on the delimitation of corporation wards and reduced the number of wards to 227.

Notably, the previous Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) led by Uddhav Thackeray government had increased the wards to 236.

Pednekar, who belongs to the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), filed a petition on Monday after the Apex Court, recently, refused to entertain his plea.
