Pakistan’s leader of opposition, Imran Khan, who was attacked and injured a few days back, has once again come down on the streets against the Shahbaz Sharif government of the country. On Saturday, a rally was conducted by Khan in Rawalpindi, demanding the resignation of the Shahbaz Sharif government and fresh elections.

In the wake of the alert issued by the security agencies of a bomb attack on Khan, elite commandos had been deployed in the Punjab province by Imran’s party, Tehreek e Insaaf, for his security, even prior to the rally. For Khan’s security, were also deployed a special battalion of the Khyber-Pakhtunwa province police, and Imran’s personal guards.

For the rally, there was a ban on drone cameras and Imran’s sunroof vehicle, and aerial surveillance was also done. Snipers had kept an eye on the whole affair from buildings. Strict security measures were made by the government on all the roads in Islamabad, and in the wake of the match with England, the administration had given a condition for the rally to leave Faizabad at night itself.

Pakistan’s political analyst, Najam Sethi said that Imran’s objective is to increase the pressure of resigning on the Shahbaz Sharif government. The march is likely to end peacefully after changes are made in the army. Retired army chief Qamar Jawed Bajwa has stated that the army will not interfere in political matters.
