Outgoing Ambassador of China to Bangladesh calls on Foreign Minister Dr Momen

Dhaka: The outgoing Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bangladesh Li Jiming paid a farewell call on Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen, MP at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka Thursday. During the call, Foreign Minister expressed deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies for the sad demise of the former President of China Jiang Zemin.

The Foreign Minister appreciated Ambassador Li Jiming’s contributions in strengthening Bangladesh-China bilateral relations. He recalled the visit of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to China in 1952 and 1957 and referred Bangabandhu’s impression on the New China, eloquently accounted in his own book “Amar Dekha Naya Chin” on the visit to China in 1952. The Foreign Minister lauded the support of the Government of China and the Chinese Ambassador in addressing Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, particularly for the gift of over 5 million doses and for opening the commercial supply line of 77 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Bangladesh at the most critical time of the pandemic, good progress of the China-assisted mega projects in Bangladesh, etc.

Both sides cordially exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest, including cooperation in different multilateral fora on SDGs, climate change, South-South Cooperation, etc. Reiterating Bangladesh’s position on ‘One China Policy’, the Foreign Minister stated that Bangladesh shares the vision for a free, open, peaceful, secure, and inclusive Indo-Pacific Region, based on international law and with shared prosperity for all. He expressed the hope that China would continue to extend support towards repatriation of the Rohingyas from Bangladesh to Myanmar at an early date for the peace and security in the region.
