Kolkata: Four football players from Aditya School of Sports (ASOS) Rainbow have made their way to the 2023 Khelo India Youth Games with the Bengal Football Team (Girls).

The Indian Football Association (IFA) Selection Committee supervised the trial sessions at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Ground, Kolkata, last month.

Priti Sarkar has been selected as the goalkeeper; Swata Kundu has qualified as the midhalf; Bandana Roy and Mollika Tudu have been selected as stoppers.

Since its inception in 2017, Khelo India has been promoting sports, team spirit, developing strategic and analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting, risk-taking, and sportsmanship at grass-roots levels with the aim of making India a sports superpower.

The 5th Khelo India Youth Games will take place across eight cities in Madhya Pradesh that have world-class sports facilities.

The participation of 8,500 athletes in 27 disciplines, with the inclusion of water sports for the first time and the addition of new disciplines like canoe slalom, kayaking, canoeing, and rowing, make KIYG 2023 special and unique.

Commenting on this achievement, Anirban Aditya, Chairman, Aditya Group, said, “We congratulate our selected players on this achievement and we offer them our best wishes for the tournament. This selection is the fruitful result of the sheer hard work and dedication of the footballers under the supervision of our respected ASOS Academy Technical Director Jayabrata Ghosh. Our players have made us proud and we hope they achieve greater things in life. We are aware that now the competition is tougher, but the athletes must keep in mind that ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going.”
