Thomas Seva Foundation recently announced its association with Punam Rai, who is an inspiration to people all across the globe, in the form of a dedicated artist. Rai is the epitome of how one can take a leap of faith to nurture one’s passion, despite challenges and difficulties strewn on the path of life.

Rai was bedridden for 17 years with near-total paralysis caused by a severe spine injury which was caused after she was pushed down the third floor by her husband and in-laws for dowry. And while the doctors had lost all hope of Punam getting on her feet ever again, she proved them wrong, and went on to found the BR Foundation, an NGO named after her late father which provides classes of painting, Taekwondo, and self-defence free of cost.

Thomas Seva Foundation will be working with the inspirational artist and her NGO on two fronts. The first is to promote her paintings in India and globally, and the second is the launch a fashion and accessory line, which will feature her works of art, which will be distributed in India and internationally.

The association was announced at the recently held The Purple Fest in Goa, which was the first of its kind event held in the state. The Purple Fest 2023 was an inclusive event that aimed to show how we can come together to create a welcoming and inclusive world for everyone. The festival included engaging panel discussions, artistic live performances, grand exhibitions, immersive experience zones, and much more.

Regarding the association, Myrtle Rodrigues, Chairperson, Thomas Seva Foundation, said that the reason why the NGO associated with Punam Rai is because hers is a story of inspiration to people from all walks of life, to take a personal tragedy, and rise above it to follow one’s passion.

“Punam has become an example for the rest of the world stating that where the mind and the heart are together to survive and shine, there will always be success. Therefore, we want to make Punam Rai and her art a brand, not only in India but across the world”, she expressed.

Myrtle further added that one of the unique ways to promote an artist is to use their art as a message which can be delivered through fashion accessories with a global outreach.

On associating with Thomas Seva Foundation, Punam Rai said that she will keep on working diligently and follow the lead of Savio Rodrigues, Co-Chairman and Trustee, Thomas Seva Foundation, who she fondly calls ‘bhai’ after she tied a Rakhi on his wrist on her visit to Goa for attending the Purple Fest.

She thanked Rodrigues and Thomas Seva Foundation for showing her immense support and lending a helping hand to her for continuing to inspire people though her art not only in India but globally.

Thomas Seva Foundation is constantly working towards reaching out to people and inspirational women like Punam Rai to empower women across India.
