The scientists of Switzerland have made a major achievement, after they were successful in changing the way of lightning through lasers. This technique can prove to be helpful to protect buildings from the damage caused by lightning falling on them. The scientists said that they threw lasers towards the sky from Mount Santis, situated in north-eastern Switzerland, and changed the direction of the falling lightning.

With further improvisation of this technique, this can be used to safeguard important buildings and structures like stations, airports, and wind farms from lightning and the damage caused. This technique will not only help in protecting the buildings, but can also be used to save communication tools and electricity lines, along with saving the lives of thousands of people every year.

This experiment was conducted on a telecom tower on Mount Santis, which are the most effected from lightning in Europe. During this experiment which was carried out for two months in 2021, very sharp laser beams were thrown towards the sky at a rate of 1,000 times per second, and the target of this laser was lightning. Very sharp laser beams created long plasma columns in the lightning’s way and stopped it.
